Kyle

Kyle was recently implanted with bilateral Cochlear Americas cochlear implants and has made exceptional progress. We are excited to continue to help Kyle with his hearing journey!

When I was 5 years old, I went through cancer treatments and one of the chemo drugs affected my hearing some. My hearing started to decrease a little while in high school, then it wasn't until November of 2023 it got worse while using a power tool without ear protection and my ears would not stop ringing. I had my hearing checked and I had so much hearing loss that they told me I needed to get hearing aids. I did not want to at the age of 21, but they helped. My hearing continued to get worse. I then went to Midwest Audiology and they said I was a good candidate for the cochlear implants in both ears. I agreed as the hearing tests showed my hearing was at only 6% and I was to the point I could not even hear with my hearing aids anymore. They referred me to Dr. Liu at Mercy in Cedar Rapids where I had surgery on my right ear first. After a couple weeks I followed up with Tanya at Midwest Audiology and set up my cochlear implant and adjusted them. It took time, but I could not believe the difference it made with my hearing! It helped so much I decided to do my left ear also. Now with the cochlear implant in both ears, I can hear so much better! My hearing is up to 86% now! I highly recommend having this done! It was so hard to visit with friends and family since I couldn't hear the conversation at all. But now with the cochlear implants, they have changed everything and I enjoy getting together with family and friends again. All of the staff at Midwest Audiology have been great to work with! They are very friendly, helpful and make everything so easy to understand! They made a difficult situation not seem so bad at all! I would definitely recommend getting cochlear implants at any age and of course going to Midwest Audiology! Thank you for everything you have done for me!
